"The Village"

The Santa Monica City Council will talk tomorrow (Agenda item 8-A) about designs for "The Village", 325 units of Luxury condos (center, looking east from Ocean Ave.), facing a future park in front of City Hall, and affordable apartments subsidized by the condos (right), on the old RAND property between Main and Ocean.

Wonder how much the condos would sell for? And calling it "The Village" brings back the old 1968 TV series, "The Prisoner", starring Patrick McGoohan. Its titles memorably said:

Where am I?
In The Village.
What do you want?
Information.
Whose side are you on?
That would be telling. We want information. ...

Yea because the traffic isn't bad enough already?? More development!

Where is the parking going to be? Will this create a significant strain on local infrastructure?

Will the "park" just be another area for the bums to take over?

I realize there are some good arguments that can be made in favor of more development, but I am very concerned about traffic and overall population levels. Those of us who have lived here for a long time don't like a lot of what Santa Monica has become. It is overrun with traffic, too much commercial development, and not enough parking.

And as much as I bitch about prices being too high, the idea of "affordable" living in Santa Monica just doesn't really seem to make sense to me. Even the rent control stuff seems over the top...the damn city gets involved and mucks up everything. Ok, I'm done ranting.

"Number Six, The Village" would be a cool address.

Parking is to be underneath, War Chest. You're not alone with concern about SM development.

Perfect, Richard!
